Jason Wong is a percussionist who is currently pursuing an International Artist Diploma at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) in the UK under Simone Rebello, Le Yu, Paul Turner, Liz Gilliver, Emil Kuyumcuyan and Kai Strobel.

 

Born in Hong Kong, Jason is keen on solo playing who has rapidly established his name in the international music scene. He was the Universal Marimba Competition 2024 Second Prize Laureate. He was also nominated by his college to receive the Silver Medal Award from the Musicians’ Company after championing the RNCM 2023 Gold Medal Competition and Concerto Competition and the first prize in the Croatian International Percussion Competition Rhythm-O-Phonia in 2022, where he had the privilege to perform a new concerto with the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra. He also had masterclasses and had collaborated with a lot of international renowned soloists such as Momoko Kamiya, Colin Currie, So-percussion, Eric Sammut, the Ju Percussion Group and the Percussions Claviers de Lyon.

 

Jason is an active musician who has made his solo debut with the RNCM Symphony Orchestra playing Keiko Abe' Prism Rhapsody in March 2024 and has held his debut solo recital in Manchester and Hong Kong in 2023. Performing regularly with the RNCM Symphony Orchestra, Percussion Ensemble and Wind Orchestra gained him much experience in which he had collaborated with players from the BBC Philharmonic and The Halle. He had also made his appearance with the Brighouse and Rastrick Band, Nottingham Philharmonic Orchestra, Blackburn Symphony Orchestra, and Hong Kong Children’s Symphony Orchestra to name a few.

 

Jason began his percussion studies at the age of 12 at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts junior music programme with Mr Raymond Vong. At the same time, he continued his secondary studies at TWGHs Wong Fut Nam college where he led his percussion ensemble winning the first prize in the Neerpelt European Music Festival for Young People in 2015.

 

He is currently exploring new percussion genres and repertoire alongside electronic music and visual effects. Besides all these, he loves cooking and eager to taste all cuisines around the world.
